Forecast: Cloudy skies, breezy trades and high surf

Expect mostly cloudy skies and breezy trade winds heading into the second half of the work week. Winds will be 15-25 mph with some higher gusts. Most showers will fall on windward and mountain neighborhoods with a few passing showers making it leeward.

High in Honolulu will be 79 degrees.

Light winds and much wetter weather is expected late Friday through Saturday. Improving conditions will be possible Sunday afternoon into early next week.

Surf is rapidly building to 20-25 feet along north and east shores. Use extreme caution. Check with lifeguards before approaching the shoreline. Waves today will be 20-25 feet north and east, 1-3 feet west and south.

High surf warning for all north and east shores.

Small craft advisory for all Hawaii waters.

Caution to Mariners due to surge and large waves breaking at entrances of harbors with northern exposure.

High wind warning for Big Island summits. Winds will be 40-65 mph with gusts to 70 mph.
