The No. 3 Rainbow Warrior volleyball team dropped a four-set match (17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22) to No. 5 UC Irvine earlier this evening at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Despite the loss, Hawaii (9-2, 1-1 BWC) captured the inaugural "The Pineapple Orange Crate", which goes to the winner of the UH-UCI series, on point differential.
Stijn van Tilburg led the way for the 'Bows with 27 kills while Rado Parapunov recorded 12 kills and three blocks.
Although the Warriors hit .397 for the match, they did not record a single service ace after serving eight on Friday.
For UC Irvine, Karl Apfelbach had 24 kills to lead the Anteaters, who hit .435 as a team.
The Warriors will play host to Concordia-Irvine of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Friday, March 2. First serve is set for 7 p.m. HT.
