WAINIHA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Drivers on Kauai are advised to proceed with caution on Kuhio Highway in the Wainiha area.
State DOT crews continue their efforts to clear the road after a landslide made it impassable.
Recent heavy rains caused the landslide earlier in the week. No one was injured, but motorists were unable to drive around it.
DOT officials say an emergency access route on the ocean side of the highway was cleared Friday night to allow emergency services access to the affected communities. The route was open to alternating traffic on a limited basis Saturday.
Crews will return Sunday to complete cleanup efforts.
