MAUNA KEA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The snow is coming down atop Mauna Kea.

Images from the summit show heavy snow accumulating on roadways and around telescopes.

National Weather Service forecasters said the mountain should expect 6 to 12 inches of snow through Friday evening.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Big Island summits through 6 p.m. Friday.

The icy and dangerous conditions prompted officials to close the road to the summit of Mauna Kea

It's the latest winter storm to drop buckets of the white stuff at the summit.

Earlier this month, Mauna Kea got more than six inches of snow.
