PAHOA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman in her 30s died Tuesday night after she was struck by a car in Pahoa, according to Big Island officials.
The crash happened at around 9:40 p.m. on Highway 130 near Kalapana Road.
The victim's boyfriend told fire officials that they were both walking on the side of road when the woman "launched herself" into oncoming traffic. That's when she was struck by the sedan.
The driver, who was uninjured, said she was driving at approximately 55 mph at the time.
Authorities have not released further details at this time.
