Big Island man dies after high winds toss farm shack from foundation

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island Police have determined that a 74-year-old Big Island man died after his shack was blown 150 feet from its foundation while he was still inside.

Hawaii police discovered William Ryder's body Monday in the Holualoa area after responding to a coroner inquiry. Ryder was a seasonal coffee worker on the Big Island and was found dead in a shack-like structure without walls.

There were no witnesses to the death, but it apparently happened during severe weather on the Big Island.

A coroner conducted an autopsy and the final results of the investigation are pending information from toxicology testing.

Hawaii Island Police asks that anyone with information related to the incident call Lt. William Gary Souther at (808)-326-4646 extension 253.
