HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Yancy Medeiros' Cinderella run at welterweight came to an end tonight against Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC Fight Night Austin as the fight was stopped in the first round after Cowboy sent the Hawaiian crashing to the canvas.
Tonight's main event Austin, Texas was promoted as a fighter's fight with two of the sport's most game prize fighters and while the fight didn't last long, but it's safe to say that the fight didn't disappoint.
Medeiros came out firing on all cylinders against Cerrone, looking to make this another "Fight of the Night" contender but wasn't able to keep up the pace against Cerrone, who ate some powerful shots in order to dish out some punishment of his own.
Cerrone remained calm through the storm of punches from Medeiros and began to pick apart Medeiros on the feet, eventually catching the Hawaiian with a well-timed counter that wobbled Medeiros.
While he did his best to remain on his feet, Medeiros' legs gave out on him and he fell head-first into the Octagon's canvas where Cowboy pounced on him and got the finish via TKO. With the win, Cerrone snapped a three-fight losing streak and is now tied for the most victories inside of the Octagon in UFC history.
