KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A broken fence and an empty space on the ground is all that remains following an attempted ATM theft in Kailua.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, Securitas informed Big City Diner management that one of the patio ATM's was severely damaged.

The manager of the restaurant says the machine was nearly bent in half. Employees believe suspects used an SUV or truck to back through the patio fence and then chain the ATM to their vehicle.

The ATM was bolted down and didn't budge, forcing the suspects to leave empty handed.

It took crews nearly 4 hours to remove the busted ATM. It's unknown how long it will take Big City diner to replace it.
