HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the first time in state tournament history, there will be two Division 1 boys soccer champions after the DI title game of the Queen's Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships was postponed Saturday night due to weather.
Baldwin and Hawaii Preparatory Academy agreed to not continue the game tomorrow morning after lightning in the area forced the game to be stopped in overtime after both teams went scoreless during regulation.
Crowned as co-champions, Hawaii Preparatory Academy will have won three state titles in a row after winning DII titles in 2016 and 2017. As for Baldwin, this title will make for the first time in school history that the school has been state champs.
No neighbor islands team has ever won a boys soccer state title in Division I until tonight.
