For the first time since 2011, the Rainbow Warrior baseball team started its season 2-0 after defeating Air Force 4-1 Saturday at Les Murakami in the second game of the four-game homestand.
Hawaii (2-0) were led on the mound by Dominic DeMiero and Colin Ashworth, who combined to hold Air Force to just six hits and one run. DeMiero struck out five batters, allowing one run while Ashworth took over for the final three innings to earn the save.
Air Force began things nicely in the first inning with a solo-home run courtesy of Nic Ready but that would be the only time the away side would get on the board as Hawaii slowly got its offense going after the first frame to score four runs in consecutive nights.
Adam Fogel had three hits, including two doubles while scoring two runs for Hawaii.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium in a double-header. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1:05 p.m. HT.
