Traces of herbicide found in Oahu water systems

MILILANI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Non-threatening amounts of a pineapple and citrus herbicide have been found in two Oahu well systems.

Results from a water test by the Honolulu Board of Water Supply found trace levels of Bromacil in well pumps in Mililani and Waipio.

For Waipio and Mililani, levels of Bromacil were small, 0.24 parts per billion in Mililani and 0.23 points per billion in Waipio, according to Board of Water Supply officials

Both levels are more than 100 times lower than the EPA health advisory level for bromacil which is 70 parts per billion.

The Lifetime Health Advisory Level is the concentration in drinking water that isn't likely to cause any adverse, non-carcinogenic effects over a lifetime of exposure, according to the EPA.
