HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Friday, Gov. David Ige officially declared 2018 the 'year of the Hawaiian' at a proclamation signing ceremony at Washington Place in Honolulu.
The 9 a.m. ceremony celebrated the leadership, tradition, culture and history of the Hawaiian people. Several prominent native Hawaiians were present including former governor John Waihee.
Grammy-award winning artist Kalani Pe'a performed several numbers to commemorate the event.
