HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Losing streak no more.
The Rainbow Warrior basketball team snapped its five-game losing streak Thursday night against a UC Irvine team that had won five games in a row by a score of 62-61.
Hawaii (14-10, 5-6 BWC) got back in the win column on the road against the Anteaters (13-15, 8-4 BWC) despite shooting 3-of-24 from the field in the second half, scoring just one field goal in the final 17 minutes of the game on 12.5 percent shooting.
Leading for the majority of the game, the Warriors held off a late UC Irvine to run to seal the victory, led by Gibson Johnson and Sheriff Drammeh who scored 13 points each. Mike Thomas chipped in 10 points including five free throws down the stretch while Tommy Rutherford led the Anteaters with 13 points.
The Warriors will look to keep this momentum alive when they take on UC Riverside on Saturday in the second game of their road trip. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., HT.
