No glove, no love: UH Manoa holds condom fair to promote healthy relationships

MANOA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For some, a conversation about intimacy might be ... difficult.

But at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, St. Valentine's Day was the perfect opportunity to start such a conversation.

On Wednesday, the annual condom fair was held at Campus Center. It's intended to educate students and promote healthy relationships.

"It's not always about sex or condom use, but more how to make sure you're going to have a happy and healthy relationship," one student organizer said.

There were prizes, condom roses and of course, free condoms for students. Educational material was also handed out.

Organizers say healthy relationships can be maintained with consistent use of condoms, healthy sexual decision-making and good communication.

Ruthie Diaz with UH Manoa Health Services volunteered today and said, "I think Valentine's Day is a time for romance. It's a way to express yourself and there's a right way to do it and a safe practice to know."

The event was put on by the university's Health Promotion Program.
