HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 37-year-old man charged with murdering a homeless Hilo woman in 2015 will be sentenced to life in prison Wednesday, with the possibility of parole.
In August of 2015 Curtis Hodges, a visitor from Shiloh, Illinois, was arrested in connection to the murder of 49-year-old Danielle Caron. A homeless man discovered the body of the 49-year old homeless woman off Kamehameha Avenue at about 1 a.m after the incident.
She was found dead with several stab wounds to the neck. Hodges was arrested within hours after a nearby business released surveillance tapes identifying him.
Hodges originally plead not guilty before changing his plea to no contest in November as part of a plea deal.
Deputy Prosecutor Shannon Kagawa told the judge if the case had gone to trial, the prosecution would have proven Hodges stabbed Caron "multiple times, resulting in her death."
Kagawa said video evidence and DNA found on Hodges' clothing indicates that he killed Caron.
