It's the florist's Christmas! Flower shops frantic to meet Valentine's demand

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If haven't already figured out plans for flowers, candy, or a nice dinner out on Wednesday ... don't panic, but it is Valentine's Day.

According to research from the online coupon company RetailMeNot, the average American celebrating the holiday will spend around $135 on gifts this year.

Nationwide, roughly $2 billion will spent on flowers alone.

Honolulu's Beretania Florist expects to make more than 1,400 deliveries total deliveries for the holiday.

"Valentine's is the single busiest day of the year," said Reece Nakamoto Farinas, the company's sales and marketing director.

Farinas says the company has had to bring on extra help to meet the demands of customers – some, he says, are ordering as many as five dozen roses.

"We had to take on four times the amount of staff that we regularly have," says to Farinas.

Farinas says his shop will be taking last minutes orders – even on Valentine's Day.
