WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are asking witnesses to come forward after a man was found bound and beaten near a burning vehicle in Wahiawa on Sunday.

Family and friends have identified the victim as Patrick O'Sullivan, 24.

Family members said Monday that O'Sullivan remained in the Intensive Care Unit recovering from life-threatening injuries. They also told reporters they are overwhelmed and fear retaliation if they speak to the media and asked for privacy.

What happened to O'Sullivan is still unclear. Sources say a man noticed a vehicle on fire on Wilikina Drive just north of Kamananui Road around 5 a.m.

The man's wife said as she was on the phone with police, her husband heard mumbling coming from the bushes. That's when they found O'Sullivan, his body burnt and face swollen. The wife asked she and her husband remain anonymous, also out of fear of retaliation.

Sources say O'Sullivan also had a gunshot wound to his neck.

The wife said as the burning car began to pop, her husband dragged O'Sullivan out of the bushes and saw his hands were duct taped behind his back and there was also tape around his neck.

Police have launched an attempted murder investigation.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
