Search continues for Puna suspect who fired at Big Island police officer

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police on Hawaii Island are still searching for a man who fired a gun at a police officer early Friday morning before fleeing on foot.

The officer was not injured, and police say they're also looking for a 29-year-old woman — Angel Ano — who may know the identity of the suspect.

The incident happened at about 6 a.m. Friday in the Tiki Gardens subdivision.

Police said officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area and when they got on scene, they heard a woman yelling.

One of the responding officers found a man fleeing the area on a dirt bike. The man fell off the bike, then pointed a gun at the officer and fired, before running into the bushes.

The officer did not return fire.

Despite an extensive search, the suspect and the woman were not found.
