WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a shooting overnight in Waianae.
A 19-year-old man was rushed to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition after Emergency Medical Services officials say he was shot in the back.
According to Honolulu police detectives, a truck full of people wearing masks drove up to a home on Hale Ekahi Drive around 1 a.m. Friday, got out of the vehicle and started firing at a crowd of people outside the house.
Police say it's unclear how many gunmen may have been involved, but several people were shot at, though only one person was hit — the 19 year-old man who was rushed to a trauma center.
Police have not identified any suspects at this time. Initial reports indicated four to five people fled the scene in a white pick-up truck.
Police say it's unclear if the shooter and victim knew each other.
They're still trying to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting.
Sources say this is the second time police have responded to calls near this address in the last 24 hours. There was a report of an altercation earlier in the evening on Thursday, but it's unknown if the incidents are related.
Police say no one else was injured.
Detectives are still with the crime scene unit taking pictures and gathering evidence in Waianae as the investigation into the first-degree attempted murder continues.
