HAWAII KAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Shack Hawaii Kai is closing its doors.
The popular eatery and sports bar has been around for 27 years, but has struggled over the last year.
Employees were told Wednesday morning that the location would close Friday, and that they'd get their last paycheck next Tuesday.
Some 30 to 40 people work at the bar, and many were crying at Wednesday morning's meeting.
Owner Andy Lindberg told employees he was forced to close because the location's revenues no cover the lease.
The Shack in Mililani will remain open.
For years, The Shack in Hawaii Kai has been a popular lunch spot and a go-to pau hana stop for a beer and a burger.
But it's also been the site of several crimes, including an armed robbery in 2016.
