HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu police department released their officer misconduct report for 2017.

HPD says last year, 43 officers were fired or suspended for misconduct, which is a 24 percent drop from the two years prior.

In the report to the legislature, HPD listed 36 incidents involving 43 officers. Eight of whom were fired.

Between 2015 and 2016, HPD disciplined more than 55 officers.

HPD says the difference may be due to process or overlap from year-to-year.

The primary causes of longer suspensions were failures to fully investigate crimes where officers were involved, and cases of sexual harassment and domestic violence.

Drugs and alcohol abuse also led to several suspensions.
