HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warrior volleyball team got back on track after losing to UCLA in a four-set thriller last Sunday with a clean sweep (25-11, 25-11, 25-18) over Lees-McRae Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawaii (8-1) won its first match of the inaugural Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger Classic, using 17 players in their win over their D-II opposition.
The 'Bows hit .418 for the match and served eight aces while limiting the Bobcats to -.016 hitting.
Sophomore outside hitter Austin Matautia led the Warriors with 10 kills hitting .562 while sophomore opposite Brandon Rattray added eight kills, four aces and two blocks.
Robert Bowling and Wes Rogman each had five kills to lead the Bobcats (1-7).
Hawaii will meet Academy United, a professional team competing in the National Volleyball Association Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. HT.
