Man pleads not guilty in case of fatal stabbing outside Waipahu convenience store

WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 22-year-old man pleaded not guilty on Thursday to the killing of another man outside a Waipahu 7-Eleven store.

Aiven Angei was charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with the fatal stabbing, which took place over the weekend. Angei's bail has been set at $1 million.

Jonathan Makana Kanui-Flores, of Ewa Beach, died of his injuries on Wednesday.

Sources tell Hawaii News Now that Angei approached two men who were standing outside of a Waipahu 7-Eleven around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning and asked about purchasing marijuana. Kanui-Flores and another witness reportedly told Angei to leave, and things got heated.

When the altercation escalated, according to sources, Angei stabbed the victim multiple times, causing critical injuries to the man's chest, back and head. Angei fled on foot before police and paramedics responded to the scene.

He was arrested around 6 p.m. Monday near Mokukaua St. in connection to the stabbing. He is due back in court on Monday.
