HANAPEPE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The wild weather is picking up on the Garden Isle ahead of an approaching cold front Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said Tuesday afternoon a line of thunderstorms nearing Kauai may produce periods of lightning and gusty winds upwards of 40 mph. The active weather is expected to last through midnight.

Video sent to Hawaii News Now showed red dirt blanketing Hanapepe as wind speeds increased.

The cold front is expected to drop through the island chain beginning Tuesday with Kauai, then stalling over Oahu Wednesday.

Cool temperatures, and potentially heavy rain is expected.
