HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Last week Friday, the Hilo community was shocked to find vandals tagged a Japanese tea house at the Liliuokalani Park and Gardens.

On Friday, Jan. 26, the Friends of Liliuokalani Gardens posted a photo to their Facebook page. It showed a large area of white and black spray paint on the side of the tea house.

Materials imported from Japan were used to build the tea house in 1997.

Volunteers worked over the weekend to carefully scrub away the paint on the popular attraction.

As for who is responsible: That remains a mystery.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on their non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
