HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Department of Transportation advises Oahu motorists to be aware of closures on the H-1 Freeway around the Makakilo area that will begin Sunday Jan. 28 and last through Friday Feb. 2.

Weather permitting, closures will begin overnight from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for the entirety of the H-1 Freeway eastbound between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off-ramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp.

A full closure of the H-1 Freeway is necessary for crews to work on the Farrington Highway overpass as part of the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project.

Drivers will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and the Wakea Street onramp to return to the H-1 Freeway.

On the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction, two right lanes will be closed between the Kualakai Parkway underpass and the Makakilo Drive overpass from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for guardrail installations.

In both directions of the H-1, the left lane will be closed between the Wakea Street onramp and the Makakilo Drive overpass on Monday, Jan. 29, through Friday, Feb. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work on the median.

The Hawaii DOT advises all drivers to allow for extra travel time and to check traffic apps and notifications before heading to their destinations.
