HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After leading the Kahuku Red Raiders to the Open Division State Title game this past season, Makoa Freitas is out as the interim head coach for Kahuku High School.
Sterling Carvalho, the Junior Varsity head coach for Kahuku High for the past three seasons, was named the new school's new head coach on Thursday.
"It was a privilege to be Kahuku's head coach last year. Sterling is a friend of mine, I fully support him, and know he will do a great job," Freitas said in a statement to Hawaii News Now. Kahuku High's athletic director Gillian Yamagata did not immediately respond for comment.
Freitas finished his only season in charge at Kahuku with an 11-2 record and an OIA Championship title before losing to St. Louis.
