Forecast: Strong winds and big waves!

Big wind and big waves through Thursday.

Northeast winds will build today and reach speeds of 15-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Some areas could see even stronger winds. Be prepared for debris on roadways and the possibility of power outages.

There will be scattered, passing showers falling mainly on windward and mauka neigborhoods. Skies should have considerable sunshine this afternoon.

High in Honolulu will be 82 degrees.

Surf is building to advisory levels today. This swell will be nothing like the huge waves we saw last weekend, but big enough to be dangerous. Experts only in the water, please.

East shore surf will grow as the winds pick up and could reach advisory levels Thursday.

Waves today will be 15-20 feet north, 10-15 feet west, 4-6 feet east, 2 feet or less south.

Wind Advisory for Lanai, Maui's Central Valley, the Kohala Mountains and Hamakua Coast on the Island of Hawaii.

High Surf Advisory for north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai; north shores only for Maui.

Small Craft Advisory for all Hawaii waters.

Gale Warning in effect at noon today for the Pailolo and Alenuihaha channels, Maalaea Bay, along with coastal waters south and west of the Island of Hawaii.
