Rainbow Warriors survive UC Santa Barbara's late surge for 77-76 victory

A double-digit lead almost slipped away from the Rainbow Warrior basketball team Saturday night against UC Santa Barbara, as the 'Bows came away with a 77-76 nail-biting victory at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii (12-5, 3-1 BWC) have now won three straight Big West Conference contests after Gibson Johnson led the Warriors with a team-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

He scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half while Brocke Stepteau scored 2 points and a game-high five assists for the 'bows, while Mike Thomas and Sheriff Drammeh each contributed 11 points.

UCSB's (12-5, 1-2 BWC) Max Heidegger poured in a game-high 22 points.

The Warriors will continue their four-game homestand against UC Davis next Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is set 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
