WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The number of vacation rentals on Oahu jumped nearly 5 percent last year, a new Hawaii Tourism Authority report concludes.
Altogether, the state now has some 12,659 vacation rental units, though the authority expressed some doubt on that total given tracking difficulties.
Meanwhile, the state saw a 1 percent increase in hotel rooms, to 44,431.
And the number of timeshare units grew 3 percent, to 11,062.
Altogether, the islands have 80,336 visitor accommodation units, the authority said.
That's a 1.6 percent increase from 2016, and the largest-ever total recorded in the state.
In fact, it's up by more than 7,000 from a decade ago.
And much of the growth has been in vacation rentals. In 2007, there were nearly 5,800 vacation rentals in Hawaii.
