HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 27-year-old Kalihi man accused in the violent killing his neighbor more than two years ago has been found unfit to stand trial and will be committed to the Hawaii State Hospital, state authorities announced Wednesday.

Police investigators say Jhun Ley Irorita was wanted in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Helen Prestosa when he was arrested on unrelated charges in January of 2016. Prestosa was reported missing in November 2015, and authorities say they found evidence of a violent attack inside her home during their investigation.

Her remains were found on Tantalus nearly five months after she was reported missing.

Irorita – in a wheelchair and with his arms bandaged – pleaded not guilty to the killing in March of 2017. A trial was supposed to begin on May 29, but was eventually postponed.

Wednesday's ruling suspends all legal proceedings against Irorita.
