Patient who fled from Kahi Mohala charged with escape

EWA BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities are still actively searching for a mental health patient who fled from the Kahi Mohala psychiatric facility in September.

Meanwhile, the Hawaii Attorney General's Office announced on Tuesday that the patient, Gregory Labar, has been charged with second-degree escape.

Labar, 36, escaped from Kahi Mohala on Sept. 28, and hasn't been seen since.

Authorities say he's known to frequent Pearl City, the North Shore and Waikiki.

He will face second-degree escape charges, which carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Labar was the only Hawaii Department of Health patient missing before Randall Saito, a high-profile patient, plotted a brazen escape from the State Hospital in November. He was captured by authorities in California.

Anyone with more information about Labar is asked to call police.
