You have to wonder if there is anyone who is not happy to be leaving 2017 behind.
It has to be one of the most tumultuous, divisive and confusing years in recent history.
But now we move on, hopefully with lessons learned from what was not well done in the past year.
By the end of 2018, let's hope that homelessness is less of a blight on our community and our consciousness. Let's hope the rail project meets or beats its budget expectations. And the political campaigns stay civil and inspire people to actually participate.
Perhaps that's all too much to hope for – but if we can face the challenges with a spirit of aloha and cooperation, we'll be fine.
Happy New Year Hawaii.
