Strong high pressure north of the islands will keep moderate to locally breezy trades blowing at 15 to 25 miles per hour Sunday. There's more moisture riding in on those trades, so expect more windward and mauka showers than we've seen lately. However, those showers should be on the light side.
In the longer term, the breezy trades will lighten up on Tuesday as a weak cold front approaches the islands. The frontal boundary will increase showers, starting Tuesday night with Kauai and then moving down the island chain through Wednesday night, weakening as it moves along.
A west-northwest swell will peak overnight into early Sunday morning, with a High Surf Advisory up for the north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai and the west shores of the Big Island. There's also a Small Craft Advisory in effect for coastal waters from Oahu to the Big Island.
