HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Wahine basketball team's offense couldn't kick into gear in the third quarter against UC Davis, dropping their second-straight Big West Conference game, 76-52 on the road.
Hawaii (7-8, 0-2 BWC) struggled early against the Aggies and trailed by seven points at halftime. The Wahine actually reduced the deficit to three points at one stage in the third period, but their comeback bid was cut short when the Aggies ramped up their defense and increased their lead to 19 going into the fourth.
Aggies forward Morgan Bertsch scored a game-high 26 points on 11-for-17 shooting and grabbed six boards. Bertsch and the Aggies shot 55.8 percent from the field while the 'Bows shot 30.6 percent on the game.
Wahine forward Sarah Toeaina scored nine points on 4-of-11 shooting while Makenna Woodfolk led Hawaii with 11 points.
Looking to move on from their 0-2 start to conference play, the 'Bows will return home to the Stan Sheriff Center to take on UC Irvine on Thursday, Jan. 11. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. HT.
