HILO, Hawaii (AP) - A former Hilo driver who pleaded no contest to allegations that he sexually assaulted a physically and mentally disabled woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports that 65-year-old Louis Sardis was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading no contest in October to two counts of first-degree sexual assault.
Sardis was a driver for The Arc of Hilo last year when he was accused of assaulting the 32-year-old woman in a van owned by the nonprofit organization.
Two witnesses told police they saw Sardis assaulting the woman in the van.
Deputy Prosecutor Kimberly Angay said Sardis initially confessed to the attack, but has since changed his story.
