HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Wahine basketball team ended 2017 on a high note with a 67-57 victory over HPU Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Wahine (7-6) were able to hold off the Sharks (8-2) who battled back from an 11-point deficit, going on an 8-0 run in the third quarter to get within striking distance. Hawaii was able to build its lead back to 14 in the fourth quarter, thanks to Sarah Toeaina's 15-point, six rebound performance.
Toeaina shot 60 percent from the field, reaching double-digit scoring for the fifth time in the past six games while Julissa Tago earned and Lahni Salanoa scored 10 points and racked up nine boards.
The Wahine will now turn their attention to 2018 and the beginning of Big West Conference play with a road game against Cal State Fullerton on January 4.
