Police pursuit of stolen vehicle ends in deadly crash

Honolulu police say a pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in a deadly crash on Vineyard Blvd. early Saturday.
Police say a Honda CRV was reported stolen around 12:30 a.m. from a Manoa residence.
Officers saw the CRV at Dole Street and University Avenue.
Police say the suspect got on the H-1 Freeway at the University on-ramp. Officers turned on their lights and sirens, but the suspect did not stop, and police began a pursuit.
Police say the suspect got off the freeway at Vineyard Blvd. He struck one vehicle and kept driving toward Palama Street, where he struck another. He was thrown from the CRV and hit a sign in the road. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The passengers in the other vehicles were not seriously injured.
Police have not yet identified the suspect. It is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors in the crash.
