A new north-northwest swell and strong trade winds are bringing dangerously large surf to the islands.
A High Surf Advisory level has been issued for north- and east-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui, and for east-facing shores of the Big Island.
The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
Forecasters said north shore surf will reach 10 to 15 feet, then rise up to 24 feet by Thursday. Surf will reach 8 feet along east-facing shores.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
