Hawaiian Airlines fixed some problems in a cargo and maintenance hangar at Honolulu's airport, now officially called the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, though one has to wonder what our late, esteemed senator would say about his name being attached to the facility if he saw the ever-increasing, shoddy conditions prevalent in far too many places of our main airport. Anyway, Hawaiian Air fixed the problems that it didn't create in this hangar, and stated recently that there were over 3,500 issues found on the project, ranging from cracked concrete before anyone even drove over the area, ramps that were poorly designed, walls with dysfunctional electricity set-ups, etc. Yes, over 3,500 issues that cropped up or were present.
Hawaiian Air CEO Mark Dunkerley is now calling upon the state to find out what went wrong, why it went wrong, and why there were so many delays and subcontractor defections throughout this project, which was obviously important enough for Hawaiian Air to come in and complete in less than a year….correctly. Lawsuits are in place, with more to follow, no doubt, as this project was designed to cost $85 but will end up costing about $120 million, according to published reports. And this one isn't even a rapid transit snafu!
