WAIMANALO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Both directions of Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo are back open after a fire erupted from a home early Monday, displacing 13 people.
Honolulu Fire Department officials say the call came in just after 2:30 a.m. with the first firefighters on the scene within five minutes. A total of nine companies and 35 personnel reportedly responded.
The fire was extinguished around 4:50 a.m.
Officials say 13 people living in the Homestead property across the street from the Waimanalo Beach Park all escaped. One person suffered a foot injury, while another was treated for smoke inhalation, though neither were taken to the hospital, authorities said.
Residents say three generations lived on the lot, which has been in the family for decades. Nine dogs and one cat also lived on the property. Right now, family members say eight dogs are accounted for.
It's unclear what sparked the two-alarm fire, which residents say started in one of the homes at the back of the property and quickly spread to two other attached units.
The American Red Cross is on site to assist the family involved.
