NEW YORK (RNN/CNN) – The widow of a New York police officer killed in the line of duty gave birth to the couple’s daughter, more than two and a half years after the officer’s death.

Thanks to modern science, baby Angelina was born July 25, 2017, to Sanny Liu, the widow of Detective First Grade Wenjian Liu.

The slain officer’s parents, the baby’s grandparents, were at the hospital for the birth.

Wenjian Liu and his wife had only been married about three months when the detective and his fellow officer Rafael Ramos were shot and killed by a gunman in December 2014.

The couple always wanted to have children, so on the night of her husband’s death, Sanny Liu had his semen preserved. She later became pregnant through in-vitro fertilization.

According to the New York City Police Department, the mother knew throughout the pregnancy that she was going to have a daughter. The night after her husband died, Sanny Liu says she had a dream in which he handed her a baby girl.

“I told my friend, ‘It’s going to be a baby girl.’ My friend said, ‘No, you haven’t even checked the sonograms,’ but I was right!” she told the NYPD.

The mother says she can’t wait to tell Angelina that her father was a hero, and she’s eager to introduce the girl to the NYPD, who she refers to as her “big blue family.”
