I actually got to ride the Superferry about six weeks ago.As a proud, Hawaii state taxpayer, I now know that I'll be helping to pay offthat thing for another 11-years, so I feel a sudden rush of exuberance that atleast I got a ride. IOf course, I had to pay once again, and it's not cheapriding from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia straight down to Portland, Maine. But thefive hour trip was smooth, the crew was very accommodating, the views weregreat, and the seats were quite comfortable.
Ah, if only more people in officialdom had done theirhomework by providing the apparently-needed complete environmental studies backin 2007, maybe the ship would still be here, carrying people and goods betweenislands. Of course, if more people had handled all of the environmental issuesrelated to the Thirty Meter Telescope, perhaps that project would not be inlimbo and in real jeopardy of going away. Can you say Canary Islands? Withprojects of this magnitude- we need better due diligence, not dull diligence.
