No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.7 magnitude earthquake near Papua New Guinea

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Forecasters at the Pacific Tsunami Warning center said a tsunami was not generated after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Papua New Guinea Wednesday evening.

Officials said the quake happened around 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time. The quake struck near the coast of the New Ireland region.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.
