Thousands expected in Waikiki for 15th annual Spam Jam festival

Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki will be closed Saturday night as thousands of Spam lovers hit the streets for the 15th annual Spam Jam festival.

Some 18 restaurants are set create innovative dishes that all feature SPAM® in some way.

About 25,000 people are expected to attend the event which celebrates Hawaii's love for the canned meat. A portion of the money raised from the event will go directly to the Hawaii Foodbank.

The event runs from 4 p.m. till 10 p.m., and will feature entertainment, food and shopping.

Kalakaua Avenue closed around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and will remain closed until the conclusion of the festival around 10 p.m. Traffic in the area will be heavy.
