Forecast: Cold front to bring heavy showers, possible thunderstorms
(Image: Hawaii News Now)
A cold front is closing in on the islands and there is quite a bit of moisture ahead of it.
We have seen spotty showers across the state since yesterday afternoon and they could intensify for Kauai and Oahu today. For those two islands, heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, particularly this afternoon.
The front will cross over to Maui County by Saturday and stall out there. The wet weather will be enhanced Sunday and Monday by instability developing aloft. That's when we will have the biggest chance of flooding showers and thunderstorms.
Winds will be light and variable until the front passes. Strong northerly winds will build in behind it.
High today in Honolulu will be 83 degrees. Cooler temperatures Saturday and Sunday.
Surf is up along south shores, big enough for an advisory. It's small elsewhere, but a country swell will kick up north and west shores today.
Here's today's wave sizes: 5-8 feet south, 2-4 feet north, 1-3 feet east and west.
High Surf Advisory for all south shores.
Small Craft Advisory for all Kauai coastal waters, the Kauai channel, and Oahu windward coastal waters.
