Forecast: Evening rains expected as weekend front nears islands
An approaching cold front is due into the state on Friday. Scattered showers along with some prefrontal showers will pop up, some heavy at times. Thunderstorms could flare up starting Friday through Monday, flooding conditions are possible.
The moisture will migrate east over the weekend, Maui county and the Big Island will be the most likely to get the heavy rain, with snow possible for the summits.
The front has pushed out the tradewinds, light winds have taken over with northerly winds taking over behind the front.
Surf is building along south shorelines and could approach advisory levels tomorrow. It takes 8 foot waves to trigger an advisory in town. A moderate north northwest boost is due Saturday.
