HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A local girl could soon be the next Wicked Witch of the West in an upcoming remake of the popular Broadway musical, "Wicked."

Honolulu native Nicole Scherzinger reportedly has been in talks to take on the character of Elphaba in the upcoming film.

Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz, long before Dorothy and Toto skipped down the Yellow-Brick Road.

Universal Studios announced the remake of the Tony Award winning musical would debut in December 2019.

Scherzinger is a former judge on The X-Factor, and recently voiced the character of Moana's mother, Sina, in Disney's Moana.

Universal has not yet officially announced the cast.
