HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 42-year-old man arrested last week in connection with the alleged murder of a suspected prostitute in a Waikiki hotel has been indicted by an Oahu grand jury.

California resident Jeremy Henderson stands charged with second-degree murder for the killing of 29-year-old Ashley Brandeberry. He was arrested last week after officers said he called 911 to summon police to the Hilton Hotel on Kuhio Avenue.

Upon arrival, police officers say, they found Brandeberry's, unconscious and pale, and noted several suspicious injuries, including purple discoloration around her neck. Court documents indicate that she had marks that looked like they came from a belt.

A copy of the statement Henderson gave to police, obtained by Hawaii News Now, says the man alternated between unintelligible weeping and clear, concise speech about what transpired.

At the scene, Henderson allegedly told one officer that he met Brandeberry at a karaoke parlor and the two began kissing after traveling to his hotel room, but she soon asked to go to sleep. The next thing he knew, she was unconscious and not breathing.

The statement, however, indicates that Henderson told another officer that he and Brandeberry were having sex and that she wanted to be choked during the act.

Police also said that guests in a neighboring room had heard loud arguing from the room roughly 45 minutes before police were called.

Henderson's bail is set at $1,000,000.
