WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Emergency crews rushed to a two-alarm building fire in Waikiki Saturday.

The call came in just after 2 p.m. from the Laniakea apartment building on Hobron Lane.

Residents noticed smoke coming from a first floor unit and called 911.

Bystanders broke the windows and a man used the building's fire hose to keep the flames from spreading.

"I was just more concerned about getting the fire contained until the real guys -- the heroes -- can get here and put it out. I was just trying to help out in any way I could. And I was concerned because my aunt lives next door so I didn't want the fire to go anywhere else," Good Samaritan George Killion said.

Once crews arrived, part of Hobron Lane was blocked off, and HFD began extinguishing the fire.

The cause is under investigation.
